Preparing for Your Class
Handguns and Equipment Students may supply their own handguns or rent student guns (revolvers & semi-autos) and holsters at $15.00 per day. Minimum caliber is 9mm/38 special or larger and single action revolvers are not suitable. Holsters must be durable and suited for the intended use (no exposed trigger guards for auto pistols), durable belt and spare ammunition carriers, i.e. magazines or speed loaders. Even if you use our holsters, be sure to bring some type of belt. At least three magazines (if single column type) for all courses, clear safety glasses for overcast days and ear and eye protection at all times while on the range. Ammunition It should be a standard load -- not a light target load. It should be tested before coming to your class and function properly in your pistol. Of course, you may retrieve your brass from the range. You must supply your own ammunition -- no ammunition is available for sale at the class location. Apparel
Generally warm weather clothing is suitable for our climate, but during the winter months one should be prepared for possible rain or cold conditions. Avoid very loose fitting garments that could hamper your mobility or that could entangle your equipment. It is very important to have a hat for protection from the sun. Also, a belt and holster is a must for carrying your firearm while on the range. Ladies, please do not wear shoes with high heels. No sandals or flip-flops. Lunch There will be a break period with sufficient time for a comfortable lunch. There are no luncheon facilities close enough to the range. Bring your own lunch and plenty of liquid refreshments. Lecture You will need writing utensils and a notebook in order to record necessary information from the lectures. No tape recorders allowed. Safety When handling any machine capable of causing fatal injury, proper safety measures must be adhered to without fail. The standards of safety at D.V.C. Shooting Sports are very stringent and each student will learn to handle firearms properly. In the handling of firearms, there is no such thing as an accidental discharge; there are only negligent ones. It will be each student's responsibility to adopt these safety standards and maintain them throughout their stay at D.V.C. Shooting Sports. Liability Agreement Firearms must be handled with complete safety in order to assure their efficient and effective use. Therefore, safety is necessarily of primary concern. The only effective way of policing safe gun handling by students is to establish strict rules and enforce them by expulsion from the program for non-compliance. Prior to instruction, each student will be required to separately sign a liability agreement, which sets forth and explains each rule and provides for Release of Liability and Forfeiture of Tuition on for failure to comply. Read it carefully before signing, as you are expected to understand the full meaning. We are sure you will feel more comfortable on the range knowing this agreement is in effect for everyone. |
